FOOTBALL ATTENDANCE
This policy is not intended to penalize players, but rather to promote attendance. We understand that players will deal with injuries, illnesses, school activity, and a number of other activities. However, if a child is dealing with any of the above situations and misses multiple practices, then they will not likely be ready to play in that week’s game. Injured athletes (within reason) can and should still attend practice, hearing what the coaches are saying will benefit both the player and the team. Should an extenuating circumstance arise, please let the coach know at your earliest convenience that your child will not be at practice.
JJM Attendance Policy for ALL LEVELS:
• If a football player misses 1 practice in a week, their playing time will be reduced for the next game they attend (at the coaches’ discretion).
• If they miss 2 practices in a week, they will automatically be moved to the red shirt roster that week.
• Players may be moved to the red shirt rosters if there are safety, discipline concerns, or excessive absences. Coaches will speak to parents and JJM board prior to placing athletes on the red shirt roster.
"Missed practices" include practices, games, walk-throughs, and chalk talks.
Note: This does not apply to injured players that attend practices but have limited participation in practice due to their injury or illness. However, players that do not fully participate in practices due to injuries need to be 100% cleared for contact prior to being allowed to participate in practices and/or games. Players not participating in a game will be allowed and expected to wear their jersey and be on the sidelines during the game.
Any player attending practice is expected to participate in all drills, conditioning and scrimmages unless limited by injury or illness. Players that select to not participate regularly in drills, conditioning or scrimmages may have that practice counted as an absence/missed practice.
Red Shirts
Each JJM team can have an active roster of up to 35 players with 5 red shirts with the Midget team allowing 10 red shirts. The Sierra Athletic Conference (SAC) utilizes a Player Allotment Requirement for active rosters, depending on team size there is a minimum number of plays per player. Red shirt players are only allowed to play after the PAR requirement has been met by all players on the active roster.
For teams with a full 40 or 45 players (Midgets), 35 players are considered active, and 5 players or 10 players (Midgets) are considered red shirts. Athletes can be moved into red shirt status weekly based on failure to attend practice, effort, safety concerns, or discipline issues.
Red shirts are determined by the coaching staff and the coaches discretion. Any concerns should be brought to the coach in an email sent via teamsideline. Athletes who are injured or out due to illness will be placed on an inactive roster for the week. Athletes who are inactive are expected to attend games but will wear game jerseys without pads and black practice shorts.
Teams with 35 or less athletes can have up to 5 red shirts. Athletes may be moved into red shirt status if coaches express safety concerns, disciplinary reasons, or failure to attend practice.
